Elder Judy Gingell of Kwanlin Dun First Nation has dedicated much of her life to advancing Aboriginal rights and governance in Yukon. Renowned for her leadership in First Nation politics, she has tirelessly advocated for Indigenous communities and broader society.
Since the 1970s, she has been instrumental in shaping Yukon's First Nation self governance, notably serving as President of the Yukon Indian Women's Association and playing a pivotal role in delivering the historic document "Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow" to Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau in 1973.
As Chair of the Council for Yukon First Nations, she facilitated negotiations leading to Final and Self-Government Agreements for many Yukon First Nations.
Honoured with the Order of Canada in 2013, Gingell's dedication continues as she advises the Kwanlin Dun First Nation Council and also serves as interim Chair for the Northern Native Broadcasting Society.
